In Greece the sea organises the trip rather than being added to it: Athens and the Cyclades are linked by ferry from Piraeus or by domestic flight, and the pace of the holiday follows the boats.
Santorini is unlike the other islands in its geography: the villages sit on the caldera cliff to the west, while the black-sand beaches are on the east coast.
In Morocco, the Atlantic coast from Essaouira to Agadir is windy and wide, the Mediterranean more sheltered. Both combine easily with a cultural route inland.
