Masjid an-Nabawi seen from above, in Madina

The second holy city of Islam, home to Masjid an-Nabawi, the Prophet's Mosque.

Madina is organised around Masjid an-Nabawi, the Prophet's Mosque. The city is quieter and more spread out than Makkah, and distances are easier to manage.

Masjid Quba, to the south of the city, is regarded as the first mosque of Islam. Mount Uhud, to the north, is the site of the battle of the same name.

Makkah and Madina are about 450 kilometres apart. The Haramain high-speed line links the two cities via Jeddah in a little over two hours, which has greatly simplified the organisation of these trips.
